About Trenchless Technology

Trenchless technology is a rapidly growing sector of the construction and civil engineering industry. This a type of subsurface construction works that requires few trenches or no continuous trenches. This means no major wreckage on the area.

This is applicable in installation of new or replacement and even rehabilitation of existing infrastructure found underground.  This is perfect since it prioritizes minimal disruption of surface traffic, business and other activities on top. The thing here with trenchless technology, it involves a family or set of methods, materials and equipment to get the desired outcomes.

Methods for trenchless construction

Tunneling
Today tunneling has improved in comparison from 20 years ago. Today the challenge is going smaller and smaller with the diameter of the tunnels.
The job usually involves tunneling pipe diameters from 300mm up to 1800mm. This involves various utilities to pass through the tunnels and that include the common oil and gas pipelines. Companies that offer tunneling should have a multi-conduit installation, on grade boring capability, and installation and grouting of carrier pipes.

Directional drilling
This one requires expertise since it is quite a delicate process. This is where pipes may pass through or other materials.  It usually involves carrier pipe outside diameters installation. It can reach up to 12000 mm size. Installation may distance up to 150 m depending on machine size.

Pipe bursting
Pipe bursting is a method of trenchless technology where in replacing buried pipelines without the need for traditional trench method. Launching and receiving pits are used to replace the trench this will naturally improve congenital pipes already laid.
Pipe bursting requires good work in pneumatic and hydraulic pipe bursting installations. Installation sizes used are from 100mm to 250mm. It should also include upsizing capabilities from 100mm to 150mm.

How it works
It is simply the use of new technology in providing care for subsurface pipes - may it be installation or repair. Since this is a fairly new technology and quite a few engineers and companies assist you with high quality services with this. Know more about it on UEA.
